MY FAVORITE THINGS

Do you prefer the original version of this song sung by Julie Andrews or the modern take of “7 Rings” by Ariana Grande? Either way, they are singing about their favorite things, and although I’m not about to break into song and dance, I am going to share a few things I’m loving right now.

This could be a really long blog post because there are just so many things I am liking lately, but I want to save some for later, so I’ll plan to do a “part two” at some point so that I can share more. I could probably do a monthly or weekly favorites as there is so much to love. We shall see

J. Crew Sweater

March weather can fluctuate tremendously, and it feels like there’s a crazy assortment of clothing and jackets (winter coat, rain parka, windbreaker, light fleece, etc.) to be worn in a short period of time. At the beginning of the month I purchased a sweater from J. Crew, not knowing when I would be wearing it or if I would even keep it. Clearly, I have kept it, and I even got to enjoy wearing it outside (while on a walk and maintaining a proper social distance) when the temps were warm enough to go without a jacket. It’s cozy and I am into cozy right now.

Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara

I’ve been investing more time into skincare lately, but I still love makeup. Most days are not full face makeup days, because I’m not going anywhere. However, I still find myself reaching for my Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara. Most people who are familiar with my beauty staples, know that I am pretty loyal to Chanel’s Le Volume de Chanel Mascara. I picked up a mini size of the Milk Makeup KUSH mascara at Sephora and now I am hooked! I like the big fluffy brush, the rich black pigment, and the conditioning feel. It doesn’t flake and it has a really great smell. I decided to read about it and found that it has hemp-derived cannabis seed oil in it, which accounts for the conditioning effect. It also has heart-shaped fibers, which help provide high volume. Definitely something I will be repurchasing!

NARS Afterglow Lip Balm in Fast Lane

Another recent addition to my list of favorites is the NARS Afterglow lip balm in Fast Lane. The formula is extra hydrating and feels amazing. The shade provides a very subtle tint, so it’s perfect for those “no makeup” days. The packaging is pink and shiny and so pretty, but it does show fingerprints, so if you like to leave your tube of fancy lip balm out to admire, you’ll want to wipe it off first. Not a huge issue, but something to note as it has a mirrored finish. I would consider getting this in other shades, except I am guessing the colors are quite similar when worn, as they are so sheer. This provides a “my lips but better” look for me. Fast Lane is described as being a sheer mauve nude and I would say that is an accurate description.

Face Mists, Hot Tea, and Hand Cream, OH MY!

Other things that are on my favorites list at the moment are face mists, hot tea, and easy to wear scents, like a hand cream to use after washing my hands for the hundredth time. I rotate face mists and just added one from Fresh to my skincare lineup. My favorite hot tea is from Fortnum & Mason, but I like several kinds. I also drink coffee, but I have been intentionally cutting back on caffeine in an attempt to remain as chill as possible. Hand creams in my current rotation are from Molton Brown, Aveda, Diptyque, Byredo, and Vaseline Intensive Care, which covers a wide range of budgets from super affordable to luxury, as well as a range of scents, from subtle to heavily fragranced.

Have you noticed that you are reaching for certain items during this time of social distancing, self-isolation, quarantine, or whatever it is you’re calling this current way of life?

I hope you’re staying inside, staying safe, and staying healthy!
